I was looking for community events on social media and came across a post for a volunteer event for photographers.  This event was for creatives.  It was an annual event started by Help Portrait who was founded by photographer, Jeremy Cowart.  He’s an awesome photographer who has been involved in many community projects and has received many awards for his work.  Help Portrait has an event every December for photographers, hairstylists, and makeup artists who come together and find people in need, help them get their picture taken, print it, and deliver it to them – all for free!

I loved this and wanted to be a part of it.  This event was at the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center.  I unaware of how many youth are impacted and affected by homelessness.  My heart ached for these young people and I immediately wanted to do something to help.  I wanted to know more about them, their stories, and their dreams.

As I took photos of these young people, I was amazed at their stories, dreams, and ambitions.  Some wanted to join the military.  Others wanted to be artists like singers, actors & actresses, and models.  One guy wanted to be a fashion designer and another a professional boxer.  Their eyes lit up and their smiles shined when they talked about their aspirations.  I was thankful for the shelter and that it was a place that could help them get on their feet and find their way to a reach their goals and dreams.
