Audio Books…

One of the perks of being a veteran are the education benefits.  I recently earned my MBA a few months ago and I have so much more time to relax.  Over the holidays I realized that I was tired of looking at books and reading.  But I had a list of books I wanted to read, so I tried out the audio version.  I saw some specials with Audible.com, so I decided to try it out.  One audio book that grabbed my attention was The Last Black Unicorn by Tiffany Haddish!  I loved it.  She narrated her own book, so you can imagine the funniest parts in her own voice.

She shared the highs and lows of her personal life, and admire her resilience, dedication, passion, and positive attitude.  She’s also hilarious.  After I quickly finished that, my shutter sister recommended a book that was on my wish list, so I went ahead and downloaded that one.  Girl Code by Cara Alwell Leyba, which I listened to on my way to San Diego.  It had me so pumped in the car!  I was ready to go on girl dates, network and be surrounded by confident, encouraging, powerful women!

Very relatable author.  Easy listen, not too intense.  It was like having a conversation with my girlfriends.  She interviewed several lady bosses which gave a nice perspective on the topics she discusses in the book .

After I quickly finished this book, I wanted to hear something more personal.  Similary to the previous autobiography I listened, so I checked out the best sellers list and picked a book that I heard about on the Breakfast Club (a radio syndicated show based out of NYC hosted by professionals in the HipHop industry). The book I picked was by Gabrielle Union, We’re  Going to Need More Wine.  I appreciated the realness of life experiences she described.  I also learned and was reminded that celebrities are people and their challenges in life are often exasperated by gossip, lies, truth, and the public.

Finally, the book I’m currently listening to is by Nicole Lapin, Boss Bitch.  I enjoy the lessons she shares from her own experiences of working in the corporate world to becoming a “Boss Bitch”.  She brings a professional feel with a bestie vibe to business women and growing entrepreneurs.  I’m not quite done with this book, but this is a book I’m going to buy a hardcopy so I can take notes and come back and read again.

All these audio books have so many great tips and advice for professional women and go-getters who want more!  They each share different stories and lessons that inspire me to pursue my dreams.  What books are you reading or listening to?  Sharing is caring!  Comment below!
